Life & Retirement includes Group Retirement, Individual Retirement, Life, and Institutional Markets. In August 2016, AIG sold off United Guaranty, its mortgage-guarantee unit, to Arch Capital Group, a Bermuda-based insurer, for $3.4 billion.

If you start out with the company in a support role, it is very difficult to step out of that and move to roles with more responsibility. You seem to always be seen as "administrative" support and nothing more."

Actual job titles make very little sense with little flexibility for specializations in IT. Talent retention isn't something that they appear to think about since it seems that a majority of the players have been there forever. With that said, the technology and technical leadership leaves much to be desired. The organization is top-heavy yet doesn't provide much growth opportunity because it appears to be filled with "yes men". First line and middle management does not appear to be willing to fight for their people. The culture is outdated and highly political and doesn't allow people to bring their game to the table without unnecessary pain. It can be described as "toxic" by some and most people lack the necessary soft skills to be great."

Certain groups within the company are completely dysfunctional. Crazy change control that will have you working from midnight to 6 am on Sundays almost every week."
